Piqua Power System employees Ken Wagner and Gavin McReynolds visited Piqua Junior High School on Thursday, January 8, to lead an educational demonstration for seventh-grade science students.
The presentation focused on electrical circuit theory and electrical safety, reinforcing concepts currently covered in the seventh-grade science curriculum. Wagner and McReynolds explained how electrical circuits function and highlighted the importance of safety when working around electricity, using real-world examples from the local power system.
“As a community-owned public power utility, education and local engagement are core to what we do,” Piqua Power System Director RJ Monnier said. “Helping students understand how electricity works and how public power serves their community builds awareness, safety and a stronger connection to the services they rely on every day.”
By connecting classroom lessons to practical applications, the demonstration helped students better understand how electricity is generated, controlled and safely delivered throughout the community. Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions and learn how science concepts translate into careers in the public power industry.
