The City of Piqua is again alerting residents and applicants to a renewed email scam targeting individuals who have previously interacted with the Planning & Zoning Division of the Community Services Department.
The scam targets past Planning & Zoning applicants whose applications were reviewed at Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals or City Historic Review Commission meetings. The email indicates that the “Special Use Permit” requires the payment of an “Invoice Settlement” totaling more than $1,000. The fee for each type of case is on the published fee schedule and will never exceed $1,000 for any case type.
The scammers are impersonating City Planner Chad Henry and asking for a reply to a non-City of Piqua email address. The City urges anyone who receives a suspicious email to not reply. Instead, call City Planner Chad Henry at 937.778.2033 or email him at chenry@piquaoh.gov with any questions or concerns.
Please note that the City emails will come from @piquaoh.gov, and invoices to Planning & Zoning applicants for permit fees will be delivered electronically through the GovWell platform. Additional warnings have been placed within the GovWell application process and on the City website.
The City of Piqua will update the public if any additional information becomes available.
