[ARCHIVED] Piqua Power System celebrates Public Power Week

Public Power Week Square

During its regular meeting on Tuesday, the Piqua City Commission issued a proclamation recognizing October 5 to 11, 2025, as Public Power Week. The proclamation highlights the importance of Piqua Power System, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to about 49 million Americans.

“Public Power Week celebrates Piqua Power System and other municipal power systems around the country,” said RJ Monnier, Piqua Power System director. “Public power puts the people of Piqua first, and this week gives us the opportunity to highlight the many advantages of community-owned utilities.”

Piqua Power System has 21 employees and operates four substations, 265 miles of distribution lines and 10 miles of transmission lines to serve approximately 9,700 residential customers and 1,093 commercial and industrial customers.

Community-owned utilities, such as Piqua Power System, operate on a not-for-profit basis. Because they are governed locally, decisions are made within the community and reflect its priorities. In addition, public power systems are recognized for their high reliability, quicker restoration times during outages and a strong focus on customer service.

“Our mission is to provide safe, reliable and affordable power, and we are proud to serve our friends and neighbors,” Monnier said. “Piqua Power System has served this community for 92 years, and we remain committed to delivering exceptional service for generations to come.”
