[ARCHIVED] Parking lot, bike path remain open as work begins at former Piqua Power Plant

Ed PP square

Work begins this week at the former Piqua Power Plant as crews conduct asbestos abatement and incidental demolition of obsolete equipment at the facility, 919 S. Main St.

While a portion of the parking lot south of the building will be utilized for the remediation work, the parking lot and the bike path between the facility and the Great Miami River remain open throughout the project, which is expected to continue through March 2026.

Remediation will prepare the site for a mixed-use commercial redevelopment, potentially including recreational, entertainment, residential or specialty production facilities, supporting job creation and economic growth in the area.

The total cost of remediation is estimated to be $3.47 million. A 2024 grant from the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program awarded to the Miami County Land Reutilization Corporation will cover 75 percent of the total cost, and Piqua Power System will fund the balance.
