Fire crews remain on-site. Covington Avenue will remain closed throughout the night but will reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday, November 19.
**UPDATE 5:40 p.m.**
Piqua Fire Department crews continue to complete extinguishment of a house fire on Covington Avenue.
The road remains closed to traffic, and City crews appreciate space to conduct their work. We appreciate assistance from the Public Works Department, Police Department, the fire crews from Troy and Covington, and Miami County Sheriff’s Department. CenterPoint Energy and Piqua Power System are on scene to ensure utility safety.
The cause of the fire and explosion are under investigation by the Division of State Fire Marshal.

Covington Avenue/U.S. Route 36 is closed between Sunset Drive and College Street due to fire suppression activities near the intersection of Covington Avenue and McKinley Avenue.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling in the area. The City encourages truck drivers to use High Street or South Street as a detour route.
