Piqua City Manager Paul Oberdorfer announces retirement

Paul OberdorferPiqua City Manager L. Paul Oberdorfer has announced his plans to retire, effective April 30, 2026.

Oberdorfer said his decision comes after careful consideration during recent City Commission discussions regarding his contract renewal and a desire to focus on family and future opportunities.

“Serving the Piqua community has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Oberdorfer said. “I am proud of the progress we have made and grateful to our dedicated staff and supportive City Commission.”

Since 2021, the City of Piqua has advanced key priorities, including improved service delivery, strengthened economic development and enhanced community placemaking — efforts that have positioned Piqua for continued success.

Oberdorfer previously served as the deputy city manager and public works director in Charlottesville, Va., director of public service in Green, Ohio, and as facility manager for Ohio Department of Transportation. He is a member of Ohio City & County Management Association.

City Commission will soon begin a search for Piqua’s next city manager. Additional details about an interim city manager and the recruitment process will be announced soon to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
